What’s better than having one trainer?  Having two trainers!

Yesterday I started with my new (male) trainer. It’s interesting and nice to have both male and female perspectives.

Anyways, I asked him about nutrition and if my goal is to gain lean muscle mass and lose fat, what should be my caloric intake and/or macros?  He said he recommends a diet higher in fat (30%-50% macros), and lower in carbs (sourced primarily from plants).  He also said some people have success with just eliminating carbs for a portion of the day (say for morning and afternoon).

Since carbs create a spike in insulin levels, he suggested having a higher-fat smoothie for breakfast, and wait until dinner for carbs.  He said he tends to have his carbs later in the day, and as a result, he has more sustained energy throughout the day.  He told me to try it out and experiment to see what works for me.

So this morning I made a healthy fat smoothie and so far, I’ve been completely satiated.  My energy feels good and I’ve only felt the need for half of my iced coffee so far!

Healthy Fat Packed Smoothie
21DSD approved (if you use use a green-tipped banana and pure whey or egg white protein)
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup homemade almond milk (recipe to come)
1 scoop protein powder
1 Tbsp. almond butter
3 tbsp. coconut flakes
½ frozen banana
1 cup ice
DIRECTIONS:

  1. Put everything in the blender and blend until a smooth consistency.  If you don’t have a Vitamix (I don’t) it will have a pulpier consistency with some coconut chunks (not a bad thing!)
