This week I helped out and attended the Polaroid Run hosted by Run North County, Oceanside Multisport Group and Endurance House in Oceanside.  A brief run on the boardwalk in Oceanside followed by a few (ok one) quick sprint (haven’t seriously run fast in FOREVER… and it hurt).  I also ended up winning a pair of Hoka’s from the raffle too!  Afterwards I met up with my brother to make dinner which ended up being super simple and delicious (baked salmon and blistered tomatoes — sharing this recipe soon!).



I’ve been trying to make a more conscientious effort to cook more meals vs. going out to eat (a constant struggle).  So London, Kendall and I made a salmon dinner with grilled romaine and baked Brussels sprouts.


The Pink Full Moon fell this week and I ended up going on a full moon hike (with a picnic at the top) at Elfin Forest.  While it was called a pink moon (and I previously saw pictures of a full moon with a tint of pink), this is just the name for the April moon because wild ground phlox begins to bloom and symbolizes spring.  The past 2 years the moon had a tint of pink during the Pink Full Moon because the blood moon (lunar eclipse) just so happened to occur at the same time.

A lot has changed in the past 2 weeks. My best friend/running buddy moved to Oregon. And someone I thought I knew turned out to be someone I don’t want to know. While shitty things happen, I never try to take it (or life) too seriously because I know everything happens for a reason. But I’ve been really happy and feeling stress-free. I’ve been running when I feel like it, relaxing when I want to, and not making (/canceling) any plans.



Last weekend was so ideal. I spent Saturday morning sleeping in with London, walking around Encinitas grabbing coffee from Ironsmith, buying crystals from Soulscape and getting acai bowls from Juice Crafters. For “linner” we discovered our new favorite restaurant, Regal Seagull, where we forced everyone to have another linner Sunday night. The best description or review would have to be from London who exclaimed “I can’t wait to come back here and we haven’t even left!”



Sunday morning I met up with Kendall for a poke breakfast at the Leucadia Farmers Market. We then spent the rest of the day watching horrible movies (Trainwreck and The Overnight), coloring, and doing absolutely nothing while still kind of doing something.

My (self-established) running schedule has been kind of set to a minimum of 5-7 miles per run. But I should probably check that and get back into some type of long-run routine with the La Jolla Half Marathon coming up at the end of the month, and the M2B marathon that I’m still planning to run at the end of May.


All in all, life is good! Linner is bomb. And friends are the best!!! :)

The lagoon has been my go-to run spot lately.  Even thought it seems like it’d get really monotonous and boring, I haven’t minded.  I’ve been throwing on my headphones, barely looking at my watch (but still run a pretty solid/surprisingly quick pace between 7-8 min miles), and walking when I forget I’m supposed to be running.  There’s been a lot of wildlife lately too — sheets of bugs that smear to your face, tons of lizards, a few rabbits.  On Saturday I even witnessed a huge rattler in the middle of the path that I made sure to stay clear of (and not even touch with my shadow).  However, I had this irrational fear that on my way back it would jump out of the brush and get me.


Last Saturday I also attended the most beautiful wedding at Milagro Farms in Ramona for Logan and Elisa. The night seriously felt like a movie, also probably because I succeed in recording 1/6th of it on my GoPro. When I originally agreed to play videographer, I only envisioned and intended on recording the important things — ceremony, dances, etc. But once the cake was cut, and the tunes started bumping, I moved onto the dance floor, video still rollin’. Which then turned into me playing reporter and interviewing guests (only the ones I knew) and other footage that literally memorialized the night.

This weekend we’ll be partying (sadly in a “goodbye” fashion), Oregon Trail style. Can’t wait to show off my superb party planning photoshop skilllllzzzz 😛

I’m back from Ixtapa with a nice color base to take me into the summer. While it’s usually 80+ degrees, we experienced a couple cooler mornings and even managed to complete a 10 mile run! Our usual run was around 3-4 miles, just from Pacifica Resort, down the main street in Ixtapa to the Marina, and back.

However, last year we discovered this paved path for “ciclopistas” that runs from the center of Ixtapa to Playa Linda. On Friday it was in the upper 60’s (felt like a San Diego morning) and we were able to run the entirety of this 8km path that literally goes through a jungle.

Not ready to be back to reality, where I’ll have to use my brain for more than just reading 😛  More on the trip to come!

So…where did we leave off? After returning from the bachelorette party, I had the most ideal Sunday afternoon. The weather was beautiful and while I’m sure I could have easily gone for a nap, I spent the day riding bikes grabbing coffee from Ironsmith, linner from Le Papagayo and some new ear piercings from 454 with London and Kendall.



Mid-week (this is already 2 weeks ago…) I had a nice sunset run with Kate, showing her some of the Del Mar trails…and the rest of the week was consumed with a work conference in Oceanside.


Friday night I left with Logan and Elisa for a really great weekend in Bakersfield. Elisa and I started the weekend off with a run on the river trail, then we celebrated my favorite bride-to-be with another shower. After the shower Elisa and I went to work in the kitchen, making the best sides for a BBQ, including bacon brussels sprouts with balsamic glaze drizzle!


Sunday morning we hiked the Jar Trail on the edge of Bakersfield, a challenging hike with areas of soft stand and steep inclines. But with sweeping views of the whole area, it was a good way to work off the wine 😉

This week has been pretty chaotic as I prep to enter total relaxation next week in Ixtapa (see last year’s trip — part 1 & part 2).


It’s been super foggy in the mornings which makes me extra tired. I got into a routine of running right after work (only 4 miles), then heading straight to YogaSix for a hot yoga class. It’s been nice to get a little bit of stretching and toning in, and I think it makes more of a difference than running an extra 2 miles or so would.


Tuesday night I met up with London to resume our “netflix and commentary” to How To Get Away With Murder (basically we’re completely obnoxious and make comments on everything happening in the show). Wednesday I hung out with Elisa and helped with some wedding prep/decor. Thursday I grabbed dinner with my mom and started the process of baking the most extravagant birthday cake (gluten-free coconut layer cake with blue ombre layers, and buttercream frosting. Crushed graham cracker crumbs and brown sugar on top to look like sand and rock candy on the sides to look like sea glass).  And last night we celebrated Tyler’s 21st birthday with a more refined “drunk barbie cake” (recipe and tutorial to come!).

Last week I tried out Car’s Jars, a salad delivery service, making lunches easy, healthy and diverse! I’ve been in a rut lately, primarily making sandwiches (meat and cheese when I’m adventurous, otherwise pb&j with bananas…). I ordered the CAR-tenon, Car’s Black Peppercorn Chicken, and the CAR-prese, which were all super flavorful and gave me new ideas for recipes. Luckily I saw Kellen’s post (where she poured her salads into a bowl), because I was just trying to eat mine straight from the jar… The next time I’m in a lunch-rut, or just don’t feel like making my lunch, I’ll be ordering Car’s Jars (plus you can keep the jars!!).


I had President’s Day off, and it was a beautiful day I definitely didn’t want to waste. Elisa and I went out for a 6 mile hike around Elfin Forest following the trail that overlooks Lake Hodges. Afterwards we stopped by Trader Joe’s (I haven’t been there in forever!) and Target (which I visited the day before…but it’s my relaxing place). I’ve had a lot on my mind lately and I wasn’t quite ready to stay home for the night, so I jetted to the Run North County Monday Fun Run at Graced by Grit for a couple miles.


I’ve also been trying to get my morning miles back in, convincing myself to get out of bed, reasoning that I can walk if necessary. Which is something I subconsciously find myself doing (even if I’m not tired). I’ll just stop running and walk a couple of paces.

I also went climbing a couple times last week (and I’m kinda getting hooked). It might be the next thing, although I’ll have to overcome my fear of heights.


The highlight of the week/weekend was Elisa’s Bachelorette Party in Temecula. Who knew Temecula had such a night life! We arrived Friday night and went to dinner at a super cute Italian restaurant called Gourmet Italia. Although we were all skeptical at first due to its location (in a strip mall), you were completely transported the moment you speed inside the restaurant. The food was delicious, the wine was flowing, and the conversations were abundant. Our mellow night turned pretty upbeat the moment we stepped into Baily’s. We literally danced for hours, breaking it down definitely gave us all a great workout.

The next day was filled with wine tasting. From Wilson’s Creek (known for their sparkling almond champagne) to Ponte and South Coast Winery, you couldn’t have asked for a better day. For dinner we went to Luke’s on Front (rooftop restaurant), followed by some mechanical bull riding at an 18+ country dance hall, and a return visit to Baily’s 😉

Last week I took 4 days off after the SOB 50k before I started running again. It was nice to take a break and I realized how much free time I actually have when I don’t work out.

On Wednesday, London took me to my first Reiki Yoga class. It was essentially very gentle yoga with some Reiki energy mixed in. It was exactly what I needed to get a good stretch while easing my body back into moving a little.


The following night, right after work, I went for a sunset run. And I actually stopped to watch the sunset (what a concept!). It felt so joyous and freeing to start running again. I took the trail behind my work down to the edge of Torrey Pines State Reserve. The air was salty and misty with a little bit of trapped humidity, all mixed around by a refreshing breeze.


I continued to run a little bit of mileage through the weekend. Saturday was absolutely beautiful, and after a quick run along the street that runs parallel to the beach, I hung out with London and Kendall for a beach day (in February!!!).



Sunday morning I went to The Love Run hosted by Run North County (a newly incorporated non-profit running club for North County SD of which I just so happen to be on the Board of Directors). It was a beautiful morning along the coast in Carlsbad. I ran with Matt for a total of 3 miles, and then we got a nice, quick stretch from Stretch U. After that I went to my very favorite friend’s (Elisa’s) Bridal Shower, followed by a pretty low-key but delicious Valentine’s Day dinner…and yea!

This is my emerald year!!! Jupiter is in Virgo, which only happens every 12 years, making it a year of luck and success. In addition to checking my Free People and Refinery 29 horoscopes weekly, Susan Miller is my favorite monthly source of predictions. They’re accurate in a non-fluffy, over generalized fashion. And they’re based on mathematical calculations and planets aligning, so they’ve got to be true!!!!! 😛

A lot of exciting things have been happening. I recently became a Westfield UTC Brand Ambassador. I randomly received a Parkland duffle and backpack in the mail. I grabbed happy hour with the girls from Alternative Strategies. I took over the RACEPLACE Instagram. And I ran my second 50k!


Elisa and I both took Friday off to slowly make our way up to Malibu. Before we reached the campsite, I had to introduce her to Malibu Farms Cafe at the end of the Malibu pier. We had, what Elisa boldly claimed as “the best sandwich ever.” And I almost lost my keys before the weekend even started, but luckily found they slipped into a bucket underneath the water station.


We arrived to Malibu Creek State Park with our selection of campsites. It appeared that not too many people were camping before the race, or camping that weekend in general. We set up, and took a long walk on a trail. Before we knew it the sun had set and we were making dinner. After eating another take on the DIY Monk Pot, we sat around the fire and warmed ourselves before retiring into the cold tent to read. Go figure, the two of us didn’t generate much body heat. However, after all the ups and downs in the middle of the night mixed with the early bedtime, we probably rounded out a decent night of rest.

Saturday morning we woke up, made coffee and oatmeal and had a 5 minute walk to the starting line. We grabbed our bibs and lined up in the freezing cold….more on the race to come!

We got a late check-out for our campsite so we were able to pack up after the race. We had our eyes set on a celebration at Blue Ribbon Pizzeria way back in Encinitas, so we made our way back home — dirt, sweat, and all.  Once home we quickly showered and dined on the lemon-infused signature pizza we both love!!


Sunday morning my dad was in town, so after attempting to sleep in, I met up with him and my brother for brunch at Union. A total treat-yourself weekend (including BeerMosas) was in tow after my big accomplishment Saturday :-0  Then we went to REI where I got a backpacking backpack (no trip in mind yet), and then shopped for the big Super Bowl Party for the 3 of us 😛

All in all it was a great weekend and I’m still living on a high from the race (and also soaking in my rest days).  Now to find the next 50k… *insert devil emoji*
