As much as I love running and fitness, I LOVE food.

That’s why Cooking Light & Health’s Fit Foodie 5k Race Weekend might possibly be the best combination, ever. We’re talking about a weekend filled with VIP events, celebrity chefs, 5K race, Finisher’s Village, bootcamp, yoga, and brunch. Held at the San Diego Bayfront November 14-16, it’s going to be the ultimate foodie and fitness weekend.

Several things today!

2. National “Take A Hike Day”
5. Coupon

Here we go…

photo 2

I don’t always go hiking.  But when I do, I prefer to go barefoot in wool socks 😛  LÄRABARs have been a favorite, clean snack, packing a lot of flavor, in a 9-ingredient (all of which are WHOLE foods) or less bar!  These are my favorite to grab on-the-go, before a run, or on a hike!  Any of the flavors with chocolate chips (such as chocolate chip cookie dough, coconut chocolate chip, etc.) are my favorite.

photo 1

One of my favorite places to run/hike/explore in San Diego is Torrey Pines.  The views are literally breathtaking (hey, that climb is pretty tough).  So you’ll know where I’ll be for National “Take a Hike Day” on November 17th — outdoors and up Torrey Pines, with a LÄRABAR in hand.  Make sure to take a hike on this special day, and share your experience by using the hashtags #eatclean and #getoutside!

A new addition to the LÄRABAR line is RENOLA, a gluten-free, grain-free “granola” option.  It tastes great all by itself, wrapped in individual packages easy for running out the door.  And it’s also good added to yogurt parfaits.

Now’s your chance to enter to win 16 LÄRABARs and RENOLA GIVEAWAY!
(Must be US resident and 18+)
Giveaway ends midnight, November 3rd.

To enter, check out the website and comment below: which flavor of LÄRABAR are you the most excited to try and why?

Also, you can use this coupon to get $0.50 off any LÄRABAR!

Thank you to LÄRABAR for sponsoring today’s post and inspiring me to get outside.

AMRAP Nutrition bars are something I’ve been eyeing since way back in my Paleo days (aka 2-3 months of 2013 lol).  That’s because they were the only bar that was high protein, but was also 100% Paleo.  AMRAP Nutrition Bars also Non-GMO, gluten-free, dairy-free, preservative and artificial anything-free, and high fat to carb ration.

I received three flavors to try (Fig Cacao, Almond Honey, and Cashew Vanilla), and honestly I ate them so quickly I forgot to take any notes on flavor.  I just know that they were goooood.  One things for sure, the size and texture were very filling, enough to tie me over and replace up to 2 meals (meaning my usual breakfast and morning snack).

Now three of you have the chance to each win an 8-pack of AMRAP bars in a flavor of your choice  (that means each winner can choose Fig Cacao, Almond Honey, OR Cashew Vanilla).  This contest is open to both US and Canada.

Ever wonder if there’s something wrong with your head?  I do, and I’m not talking about CRAZY!  For some reason, headbands never stay put on my head.  They always look super cute but then the next thing I know, they’re slipping off the back of my head and I’m wasting my time, pulling it around my neck, slipping it back up, while snagging a few hairs in the meantime–adding to my problem of flyaway hairs in the first place!

The only headbands that have ever seemed to work for me are the old school plastic ones with the teeth that sink into your head and give you headaches.  And, my one “lucky headband” (the one I always used to wear at my races…back in the day…) snapped, because it was plastic too.

However, finally, there’s a headband that works: Bondi Band.  These headbands are wide enough to pull back your hair and stay in place.  Plus, there’s a large variety to choose from whether you want to sport solid, patterned, or motivational/popular phrases.  They’re made out of a breathable material so they wear well during workouts and help keep sweat from dripping down into your eyes.

Now, giveaway time!

2 winners will be selected to win these Bondi Band headbands!  To enter, just follow: a Rafflecopter giveaway

Giveaway ends Midnight, Tuesday June 10th

You can also use the code SWEATPINK to receive 10% off all Bondi Band items except Bargain Bin, Design Your Own, and Custom Items.  Code good through 6/28.

Meow. I’m tired.  And nothing sounds better than caffeine.  Portable caffeine.  In a stick.

Enter: Pure Lyft, to get naturally “lyfted.”  (<- can we please cue John Legend, just for the sake of listening to John Legend, and for the fact that “Let’s Get Lifted” is too perfect for this product review?)

photo 2_12

Pure Lyft is an energy stir stick that has zero taste, zero calories and a whole lot of caffeine (equal to one tall coffee, naturally through green coffee bean extract).  You just stir it anything you want for some added energy.

At first I thought that these sticks were just like little test strips that you dip into a drink of your choice.  But once I opened the packaging, I saw that it’s a plastic, prism shaped stick.  First, you have to remove some plastic labeling from one side and then some powdery substance is exposed.  Note: do NOT eat the powder by itself, bleh!

I decided to put this into my favorite sparkling water drink, coconut La Croix (cuz I’m fancy).  Since my drink already had some effervescence, stirring in Pure Lyft made it bubble more (although it didn’t bubble when I tested it out in regular water).

That being said, I would recommend using Pure Lyft with a drink that already has some flavor.  I personally preferred it mixed with my La Croix versus just with regular water.  But overall, it did the job and gave me a nice, natural feeling boost of energy, with no crash or jitteriness.

Cocogo is one of those words I always want to over say, like, cocococogogogo.  Cocogo is a new sports drink made with real fruit and coconut water.  It’s powdered and comes in a little stick pack, perfect for traveling and taking with you.  Just add it to some water and you’ve got an easy electrolyte replacement drink!  It mixes in super easy, with no residual powder or chalkiness.

Coconut water is known for its natural electrolytes and potassium, making it (and Cocogo) a good option for recovering and replenishing.

The flavors are also super smooth, my favorite being the raspberry passionfruit.  The grape is probably my second favorite and I never like grape-flavored things (real grapes – yes, grape-flavored – no)!  And then the lemon-lime because this flavor can never go wrong.

Cocogo has 17g of sugar (a mix of cane sugar, maltodextrin and fructose straight from fruit).  While this is higher than other electrolyte replacements (such as Hammer HEED, Gu Brew, and Nuun) I’m not opposed to having some natural sugars especially after a hard and/or long workout.  And still, it’s not overly sweet.

Overall it has more of potassium, calcium, magnesium and electrolytes, with a lot less sodium.

Have you heard of Corazonas?  If not, it’s a line of heart healthy snacks made with plant sterols that are proven to help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol.  They’re most commonly known for their popular line of Oatmeal Squares — popular because these bars have a similar texture to what you experience when you eat a big, chewy oatmeal cookie (umm, YES).

I was recently sent their two new Oatmeal Square flavors to try, Chocolate Coconut Macaroon and Orange Cranberry, and they’re pretty spot on in their flavor profiles!

I could see eating the Chocolate Coconut Macaroon flavor for an afternoon snack, when I want something sweet after lunch, but nothing that will make me feel like crap before a workout.  And I think I would prefer having the Orange Cranberry flavor in the morning, either for breakfast or a morning snack.

Nutritionally speaking, the bars are around 200 calories, and have 15-16 grams of whole grain oats, 6 grams of protein, and 5 grams of fiber, 0 grams of trans fat, and have no wheat, flour, or high fructose corn syrup. Each bar is made naturally delicious with oats, apple juice-infused fruits and fruit puree.

It’s the weekend, so it’s only appropriate I talk about or make some reference to Costco, right?  Well this weekend (until Sunday), Corazonas will be sampling their two new flavors at the Costco in Carlsbad (951 Palomar Airport Rd, Carlsbad, CA 92011).  But if you can’t make it out, or don’t live in the area, don’t worry!  You can enter to win a handful of the two new flavors right here.

You know those pictures of glamorous overflowing smoothies?  Well, this is far from one of those.

In the process of making this I dropped a couple frozen berries that Piper, who clings to me closer than my shadow, quickly scarfed up.  It’s like playing hungry hungry hippos with her in the kitchen.  But she didn’t just eat them, she carried them around and dropped them several places all over the carpet to create nice pink stains.  Then I purposely made this over-abundant smoothie, which ended up being a pain to clean up because I basically just made a big spilled mess on purpose.  And while I was adding some finishing touches (e.g. some random berries for some stylized effect) the smoothie started to run over the tabletop edge, and in a panicked mode I grabbed Piper’s blanket to mop up the mess.

But this isn’t to merely tell you how I created this unglamorous version of the “spilled smoothie”…this is to show you that you can actually use kombucha in smoothies!  This one is pretty basic with a few simple ingredients.  I used the Black Currant Cleary Kombucha flavor to create a deep berry flavor that was icy and refreshing after my morning run.

So whether you drink it plain, or use it in smoothies, cocktails, brines or marinades, Clearly Kombucha has a wide variety of different uses.  Ultimately, you can decide what you do with it, since today you have the opportunity to win a variety for yourself!

A couple weeks ago, Daily Cup of Asheejojo turned one!  So better late than never to celebrate?

In the past I had a few amateur baking blogs and a travel blog, but nothing that was consistent or that I could ultimately sustain day after day. I finally found something that I was passionate about and could write each and (almost) everyday… I’m still surprised that the juice hasn’t run out!

A lot has happened in the past year:

Lululemon $25 Gift Card – because who doesn’t love a little Lulu?
Rad Lion “Run” Necklace – for Christmas my bff London (like the city) made me a “Virgo” hand-stamped necklace.  It is honestly my favorite piece of jewelry and the easiest to throw on everyday.  It’s a simple statement and it goes with everything!  This “run” necklace is an LLTC x DCA collab.  Check out her etsy shop and instagram for more Rad Lion pieces!
NuttZo Original Crunchy – my favorite nut butter I’ll put on everything…and don’t underestimate me when I say everything.
Pannikin Coffee Beans  – one of my favorite coffee shops I’ve mentioned a bazillion times on here.  These are the espresso beans they use in their signature drinks.
Quest Bars Cookies ’n Cream and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough – THE BEST FLAVORS.  And of course they’re both cookies!
ProBar Chews Raspberry & Strawberry – I love these during long runs because they’re pretty natural (or as close as you’ll get) and taste delicious!
Nuun Tri-Berry & Tropical – my favorite Nuun flavors.
dca1Disclaimer: I was not compensated for this post. All opinions are my own and I have supplied the items for giveaway, except for the Rad Lion necklace, kindly donated by my dear friend London.
